Natural Cold Flu Remedies

healthy pregnancy tips

Natural cold-flu remedies can make your symptoms last longer. Get plenty of fluids, and stay away from fruit juices. Green tea has also been found to help reduce the duration of a cold. Camellia Sinensis, the Camellia Sinensis herb, has been found to increase immunity and reduce symptoms of colds. Green tea with honey is a great way to test it. Also, you can try elderberry, Shiitake mushrooms and Apple cider vinegar.

Apple cider vinegar

While not an official cold treatment, apple cider vinegar can boost the immune system and prevent future outbreaks. Apple cider vinegar is antibacterial and can loosen accumulated mucus. This is great news for those who suffer from persistent or severe coughs. Nevertheless, more research is needed to support its claims, and a physician should be consulted before making major changes to your diet. Despite being reluctant to drink apple cider vinegar, it is an excellent alternative to other drugs.

Honey

Honey is not a new idea. Humans have used honey for medicinal purposes for thousands upon thousands of years. The Qur'an as well as the Bible contain descriptions of honey's medicinal properties. Hippocrates (the Greek physician and father early medicine) also mentioned its healing properties. Oxford University researchers reviewed the findings of 14 studies. Nine of these studies were specifically focused on children. The majority of them compared honey to conventional treatments.

Shiitake mushrooms

Shiitake mushrooms provide many benefits as natural cold-flu remedies. They contain polysaccharides, triterpenes, and other compounds that activate T cells, NK cells, and macrophages. Their high concentration of polysaccharides, triterpenes, and other compounds also have antioxidant properties. They are said to have immunomodulatory effects, and they contain all eight essential amino acids.

Elderberry

While its effectiveness as a natural cold and flu remedy has been debated, one study suggests that it may shorten the duration of illness by about four days. This was found to be true in a 2004 study of 60 adults. A study of air travelers showed that elderberry syrup reduced illness duration by four days. While it's not clear whether elderberry syrup is an effective antiviral remedy when taken orally, it can still be used as a natural supplement to help with symptoms.

Ginger

Using ginger as a natural cold and flu remedy may be helpful to reduce the length of a cold or flu. Ginger is an effective anti-inflammatory agent and antioxidant. This means that it can help fight infection and release toxins. It is also rich in vitamin C which can help your immune system function at its best. It is easy to get rid of a scratchy throat by adding ginger to warm water.
